Amador City, California: ACRA's Outdoor Cinema Adventures Reel in Audiences for Outdoor Movies

  • Outdoor Movie Events

Amador City, California -- population 185 -- hosted its first-ever outdoor movie in August 2008, screening Ratatouille in the middle of Main Street with the street closed off. The film was chosen partly because the restaurant in the movie echoes the town's own beloved restaurant. About 100 people turned out, many bringing lawn chairs and blankets; the town's tiny restaurant and ice cream shop stayed open. “It was a community event, something fun, and it worked,” said organizer Pamela Ferris-Olson. Amador City is among the smallest incorporated cities in California.
