Austin, Texas: Outdoor Movie Celebrates the Day of the Dead in Austin, Texas

On October 29th at 8 PM, Cine Las Américas presented “La Hora Fría: A Cinematic Offering for the Day of the Dead” at the Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin -- a free outdoor screening of El Esqueleto de la Señora Morales (1959), directed by Rogelio A. González and starring Arturo de Córdova and Amparo Rivelles. In Spanish with English subtitles.

Unique in Mexican cinema for blending horror and dark comedy, the film is a satire of 1950s melodrama written by Luis Alcoriza and ranked by Mexican critics among the ten best national films ever made. Cheerful taxidermist Pablo Morales endures a joyless marriage to the devout, embittered Gloria -- until the day he announces she has left for Guadalajara, while her skeleton remains in his lab. Presented free at 600 River Street by the MACC in collaboration with Cine Las Américas.
