Cromarty, Scotland: World's Smallest Drive-In Kicks Off Cromarty Film Festival

Two cars boarded a ferry called the Cromarty Rose and watched an outdoor movie in what may have been the world's smallest drive-in cinema. The ship held only the two cars and a sofa for the captain and crew. A digital projector shone onto a 20-by-50-foot screen tied to the ship's bulkhead. The film was The Maggie, a 1950s classic fittingly set aboard a small steamboat. Four car-borne passengers and two guests endured the cold for the full 88-minute film -- far longer than the ferry's usual 15-minute crossing.

The screening had two purposes: to launch the upcoming Cromarty Film Festival and to attempt a Guinness World Record for the world's smallest drive-in. The attempt failed because the theater was not a permanent installation.
