Maui, Hawaii: Outdoor Movies at the Maui Film Festival

  • Film Festivals

The Maui Film Festival -- nicknamed “Sanddance” after Sundance -- is among the most relaxed film festivals in existence, featuring outdoor screenings at four venues powered by a solar array. This edition included appearances from Pierce Brosnan, Dennis Quaid, Virginia Madsen, and Felicity Huffman.

Headquartered between the Four Seasons Resort Wailea and the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa, it can also be expensive to attend, though occupancy at the 2008 festival was just shy of 100 per cent. The festival itself is a bargain: single tickets $12; all-access Shooting Star pass $183. Jeremy Kay of Screen International called it “ridiculously lavish.” Festival runs June 17-21, 2009.
