Outdoor Movies at Hudson River Park, New York City

Hudson River Park runs free outdoor movie screenings at two piers throughout summer. Wednesdays at Pier 54 lean toward classic and adult-oriented programming — past screenings have included Goodfellas and A Clockwork Orange. Fridays at Pier 46 go family-friendly, with films like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

The venue is about a 15-minute walk from the 1 train at Christopher Street. Seating fills quickly on Fridays; the artificial turf is comfortable if you arrive early. Sound can be uneven — the West Side Highway is a loud neighbor. Free popcorn is available after 8:45PM and a snack cart sells drinks and hot dogs nearby.
