Open Air Tutorials: Outdoor Movie Projector Lumens
When considering buying or renting an outdoor movie system, start with screen size—then figure out the right projector to match.
A lumen measures how much visible light a source emits. As screen size increases, you need more lumens to keep the image bright and sharp. The analogy: one bucket of paint covers one wall. Double the wall, and that single bucket leaves everything thin and washed out. The same applies to projection.
That said, don't overshoot. If a 3,000-lumen projector delivers a bright, clear image for your screen size, there's no need to jump to 4,000. Our team at Open Air Cinema can advise on the right projector for your setup.
